Performance History

McCaig, O'Donovan and Carey each have an independent history of working nationally and internationally in numerous theatre, cabaret and live music acts with companies such as Doppio Parallelo, The Fabulous Singlettes, ACME Jazz Unit, Vitalstatistix and Patch Theatre Company.

The trio have individually worked with artists such as Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lippa, Ann Hampton Callaway and Robyn Archer in various capacities ranging from musical director (Carey) to guest artist and lead vocalist (McCaig, O'Donovan).

In 2001 a creative collaboration was formed by the trio, inspired by the prolific contribution to modern composition that is the work of Burt Bacharach.

The debut performance of Flat on your Bacharach was a two-night season at the 2001 Feast Festival in Adelaide, where the show completely sold out, winning rave reviews.

In 2002 the show was booked for the Adelaide Festival Centre's 'Morning Melodies' series and became the fastest-selling show the producers had ever seen.

June 2002 brought a sellout season at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, to which extra shows were added to meet demand. A total of six shows completely sold out including a special performance programmed to close the entire festival. Flat on your Bacharach was voted 'Best Cabaret' at the Festival, winning the Advertiser's Yorrick award and again the rave reviews kept rolling in.

Also in that year the show was performed at the cultural festival as part of the Sydney International Gay Games. Standing ovations, more flattering reviews in the national press and an invitation to perform in Canada ensued.

2003 heralded a successful regional tour of South Australia in April with the support of Country Arts SA as well as a trip to Vancouver, Canada to perform in July.

Flat on your Bacharach was invited to perform at a special event for sponsors and stakeholders at the 2004 Adelaide Fringe and later that year, following an overwhelming response from the Long Paddock National Touring Forum, the show undertook a national tour across four states and territories, coordinated by Regional Arts Victoria and supported by Playing Australia.

February 2005 saw Flat on your Bacharach performing at the UWA Perth International Arts Festival before being invited back to Perth for a season at His Majesty's theatre in April. In May 2005, the group completed a second national tour, again supported by Playing Australia and coordinated by Country Arts SA.

Flat on your Bacharach will play at the Victorian Arts Centre in November this year as the group continues to meet regular demand for private and corporate event performances in South Australia and across the country.
